Taz Sherman and Sean McNeil are both expected to start

The Mountaineers will have a whole new look this year when they hit the ground in a few weeks. Miles McBride and Derek Culver left school early to pursue their dream of playing professional basketball. With those two now gone and the departure of Emmitt Matthews Jr. in Washington, WVU head coach Bob Huggins will need to insert a trio of new starters into his roster.

Losing McBride means West Virginia will have to find someone who can carry out the offense at this point. Kedrian Johnson and real freshman Kobe Johnson are two guys Huggins mentioned as guys who could take on this role.

“Kedrian played well. He shot the ball better than he shot a year ago. His ball safety is much better. Kobe’s ball safety is perhaps the best of them all. is a freshman but when you play Canton McKinley you play a really good competition. He’s probably a little more prepared for what’s to come than the other freshmen. They play a great program there. “

Huggins hasn’t necessarily indicated what his plan is, but there’s a chance he could go for a three-guard lineup after mentioning that Sherman and McNeil both got starting roles. Neither has experience handling the ball at the pointe.

“The hardest thing is having them both on the ground and getting in trouble. That’s my biggest fear. You wish you had one so you could get off the bench and shoot for you, but they both obviously deserve to start. Honestly, I think we can put five guys out there who can all do hits if we played Isaiah [Cottrell] and JB [Jalen Bridges] in the front. I came back and watched our last five or six games and JB ended up playing a lot of fours anyway and he’s a lot bigger and stronger now than he was a year ago. “
