McBride wins MAC player of the week honor


CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – University of Eastern Michigan male basketball student-athlete, junior Bryce mcbride (Jackson, Tennessee-Southside (Dyersberg CC)), was named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week today, Dec. 13, by the league office. This is the first time that McBride has won this honor.

The junior captain was exceptional for Eastern Michigan in his pair of wins over Niagara on December 8 and Florida International on December 11. With their week without a spot, the Eagles are now in the middle of a three-game winning streak, the best of the season. .

McBride was instrumental in EMU’s victories in both competitions. Jackson native Tenn started the week with a team-best 19 point performance. The effort, his second best of the season, saw him convert on 63% of his shots and had a perfect 8-for-8 on the charity strip.

Even better on Saturday, McBride helped lead the Eagles to victory in the program’s first-ever 4OT game, a victory over one of the nation’s most prominent teams, the Florida International Panthers; The CRF entered the competition with a seven-game winning streak. McBride contributed 15 in front of a crowd of nearly 4,000 members at the new George Gervin GameAbove Center in Ypsilanti. The special day included The Iceman’s return to campus and the surprise announcement of a name change. McBride played 49 minutes off the bench, including every second of the four extra periods that resulted in an EMU victory, 92-88.
