HUNTSVILLE | The Gulf South Conference announced its 2021 men’s basketball preseason exit on Friday, revealing the overall preseason roster, the league’s top newcomers, and expected order of arrival as as selected by the GSC head coaches.
In the preseason coaching poll, the University of Alabama at Huntsville took first place and is fourth with 114 points.
Valdosta State leads the poll with seven nods and 134 points, while Lee won three first-place votes and 129 points. West Georgia is third with the other top two, with 122 points, and Union rounds out the top five with 96 points.
West Alabama ranks sixth, with Montevallo and West Florida seventh and eighth respectively. The top 10 ends with No.9 Delta State and Auburn Montgomery in 10th. Christian Brothers, Mississippi College and Shorter occupy the remaining positions in the ranking at numbers 11, 12 and 13.
Among the top newcomers, UAH was represented by a freshman guard Sutton smith and junior guard transfer CJ Williamson. Smith comes to UAH from Denmark High School in Georgia, while Williamson, from Guntersville, Alabama, transfers from Faulkner to Rocket City.
UAH will begin the new season on November 6 when it competes in the 2021 Small College National Basketball Hall of Fame Classic in St. Joseph, Missouri, against Seattle Pacfic.
