Kody Stattmann signs with the Brisbane Bullets in the Australian National Basketball League

Former Virginia basketball forward Kody Stattmann has signed a one-year contract with the Brisbane Bullets in Australia’s National Basketball League. The Cairns native is returning home to Queensland to pursue his professional basketball career. Stattmann joins fellow UVA alum and former Virginia 2019 National Championship teammate in Jack Salt, who played with the Brisbane Bullets in the 2021-22 season.

“Kody has spent the past four years at UVA preparing for his professional career and we are delighted to have him join the Bullets,” Brisbane basketball general manager Sam Mackinnon said. “His height and length, as well as his shooting ability are great assets that we can use in NBL23.”

Stattmann played 81 games in his four seasons in the orange and blue jerseys, scoring 244 points overall at an average of 3.0 points per game. As a true freshman in 2018-19, Stattmann played in 18 games for the Cavaliers as they won the 2019 national championship. During his senior season, Stattmann had a career-high 20 three-way shots. points on 33.9% three-point shots in 35 appearances.

Stattmann has represented Australia internationally as a member of its FIBA ​​U-17, U-17 Oceania Championships, U-18 Asia Cup and U-19 World Cup teams. Now, after graduating and graduating from the University of Virginia, Stattmann is returning home to play in the National Basketball League, the premier professional men’s basketball league in Australia and New Zealand.

Stattmann is the only start among those on Virginia’s roster who played significant minutes last season. UVA is expected to return all of its top five and top six scorers from the 2021-22 season. The Cavaliers also added transfer Ohio graduate Ben Vander Plas and a new recruiting class that includes a quartet of four-star prospects in Isaac McKneely, Isaac Traudt, Leon Bond and Ryan Dunn to its roster for the 2022 season. -2023.
