And now Jackie Young can add another line to her masterful basketball resume: Olympian from the United States.
The Princeton, Indiana native and former Notre Dame star will join the women’s 3×3 Olympic basketball team for the Tokyo Olympics, USA Basketball announced on Monday. She replaces Katie Lou Samuelson, who was placed on health and safety protocols this weekend and is unable to participate.
Young will compete alongside Stefanie Dolson (Chicago Sky / Connecticut), Allisha Gray (Dallas Wings / South Carolina) and her WNBA teammate Kelsey Plum (Las Vegas Aces / Washington).
In its first Olympic presentation, 3×3 basketball will feature eight women’s teams competing at Aomi Urban Sports Park from July 24-28.
Young previously played for a US national 3×3 basketball team at the 2019 World Beach Games in Doha, Qatar, where the United States went 3-1. She also attended the 3×3 2020 United States Olympic Qualifying Team training camp in February 2020 in Chicago, and attended the trials for the 2017 United States U23 National Team and the 2017 United States National Team. the 2014 USA U-17 World Cup.
Young has started in 21 games this season with the Las Vegas Aces and is averaging 12.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.2 steals.
