With only a handful of states still playing, most female high school basketball players have transitioned to a spring sport or club game — but a few teams are still training in preparation for two national tournaments that will affect the MaxPreps Top 25 ranking.
The first — GEICO Nationals, which runs March 31 through April 2 — features five schools that haven’t played for the state championships. The second – the inaugural State Champions Invitational on April 7-8 – features four state titles.
Currently, only eight states are allowing teams to compete in either event, but hopefully more will soon allow champions to extend the season by a few weeks.
