This is probably the most teams I have ever knocked out of the standings in opening week. This is pretty much what I expected. It will probably be a very unpredictable season.
None of the teams that were retired this week had disastrous results, they just suffered an unexpected loss or two and a solid group of teams went undefeated and won tournaments, so j took a few steps.
Stall: Saint Ignatius, Bloom, Oak Park, Barrington, Clark, Rolling Meadows, DeKalb.
New additions: Lake Forest, Marian Catholic, Riverside-Brookfield, Oswego East, Lyons, Evanston, Proviso East.
All of the new teams were firmly in the pre-season radar top 40, there haven’t been any major surprises yet.
Saint-Ignace’s loss to Lake Forest and Loyola was unexpected. The Wolfpack have high expectations for this season and it’s a tough start.
The Scouts were still destined to join the standings this season. Asa Thomas is the best junior in the state and Phil LaScala is a great coach.
