FRIDAY BOYS’ BASKETBALL MATCHUPS

Terre Haute South (3-11) at Bloomington South (11-5)

GAME TIME: 7:30 p.m.

RADIO: WGCL 1370AM/98.7FM; WVNI 95.1 FM.

TWITTER: @ Jim Gordillo.

COACHES: Maynard Lewis, 62-81 in grade 6 at Terre Haute South. JR Holmes, 729-231 in 40th year at Bloomington South, 872-349 in 52nd year overall.

LAST EXIT: Terre Haute South lost to Bloomington North, 67-44. Bloomington South defeated Martinsville, 48-35.

LAST 35 YEARS SERIES: Bloomington South, 17-5.

LAST MEETING: Bloomington South, 59-40, January 29, 2021.

OUTLOOK: Bloomington South has a four-game winning streak in this Indiana Conference contest. The Panthers had Brock Kincaid for just one of those wins (at Castle), but Patrick Joyce, Gavin Wisley and Coleman Oliphant all hit double digits last weekend. THS will have two big, burly men to contend with in 6-5 Jude McCoskey and 6-3 TJ Wilson, but the Braves have lost nine straight and are 0-6 to 4A.

Edgewood (7-9) at West Vigo (10-5)

GAME TIME: 7:30 p.m.

COACHES: Matt Wadsworth, 36-32 as a 3rd year at Edgewood, 177-160 as a 15th year overall. Joe Boehler, 161-160 as a 14th grader at West Vigo.

LAST EXIT: Edgewood lost to Bedford North Lawrence, 56-45. West Vigo beat Indian Creek, 63-59.

LAST 35 YEARS SERIES: Edgewood, 26-13.

LAST MEETING: West Vigo, 55-46, January 29, 2021.

OUTLOOK: Edgewood will be looking to snap a fourth two-game losing skid this season. It appears to be highly contested. The Vikings are giving up just 48.8 points per game, but are only scoring 51.1 and are 5-2 down in WIC play. Edgewood averages just 1 ppg more than his foes. In the last outing, West Vigo let a 23-point lead over Indian Creek shrink to just one before hanging on. Connor Martin and Whyatt Easton had 18 points each.

Eastern Greene (3-10) at Linton-Stockton (14-2)

GAME TIME: 7:30 p.m.

COACHES: Jamie Hudson, 22-37 in 3rd year at Eastern Greene, 179-179 in 16th year overall. Joey Hart, 240-68 as a 12th grader at Linton, 386-196 as a 24th grader overall.

LAST EXIT: Eastern Greene lost to South Knox, 48-34. Linton lost to North Daviess, 24-23.

LAST 35 YEARS SERIES: East Greene, 36-24.

LAST MEETING: Linton, 59-43, March 5, 2021, in the cup.

OUTLOOK: Eastern Greene hosted Bryan Rippy last week, but points were still hard to come by against two teams (Bloomfield and South Knox), who are giving up less than 40 points per game. It doesn’t get any easier in this one against 2A’s No. 5 team that has athletes in every position, led by potential All-Stater Joey Hart. Miners come out of a stallball match against North Daviess and a grinder against Bloomfield.

Lighthouse Christian (11-5) at Providence Cristo Rey (0-10)

GAME TIME: 7:30 p.m.

COACHES: Jeff Mills, 11-5 as a freshman at Lighthouse. Dominic Papalia, 0-10 in 1st year at Cristo Rey.

LAST EXIT: Lighthouse defeated Dugger Union, 50-41. Cristo Rey lost to Indianapolis Tech, 99-42.

LAST 35 YEARS SERIES: Providence Christo Rey, 10-6.

LAST MEETING: Cristo Rey, 53-39, February 26, 2021.

OUTLOOK: Lighthouse had been on a roll in January, winning six straight, his longest streak since 2015-16. The Lions won four all last year. Cristo Rey is scoring just 46 points per game and five ahead of 74, but the schedule has been brutal: Indianapolis Tech, a 13-1 Chatard team and Indianapolis Washington 10-4. So it will be a tougher test than the records might indicate. Wolves have not played for 10 days after losing their opener in the City Tournament.
