Carey honored among women’s most influential mid-major hoop coaches

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA Women’s Basketball Associate Head Coach Jamie Carey was named one of the 74 Most Influential Assistant Coaches in Women’s Mid-Major College Baseball by Silver Waves Media.

Carey is in her second year on Coach’s staff. Karen Aston with the Roadrunners. She joined the staff after serving as an associate head coach at North Texas in 2020-21, while also working with Aston in Texas from 2014-20, as an assistant coach from 2016-18 before becoming head coach associated with the final. two years in Austin.

Carey works directly with the UTSA guards while helping coordinate offensive attack and recruiting efforts.

Carey was also an assistant coach at Colorado, spent four years as assistant manager of the Women’s National Team with USA Basketball, and served as head coach at high schools in Colorado, including Sand Creek and Legacy High School.

Carey was a decorated star in Texas, where she left her career ranked 43rd in program history with 1,074 points, earning a pair of All Big-12 selections, and setting the school standard with a 41.8 percent clip from 3-point range. She began her career at Stanford, earning Pac-10 Rookie of the Year honors, before transferring to Texas.

Former Miss Colorado High School Basketball selection in 1999, she was chosen 31st overall in the 2005 WNBA Draft and played four years with the Connecticut Sun.

Carey received her bachelor’s degree from Texas in 2004 and a master’s degree from Texas in 2006.
