Speaking on the basics of basketball shooting, Dr Welukar said: “To shoot accurately, place your shoulders at the basket and place your feet at shoulder length. With your knees slightly bent and your back leaning towards the basket, place the fingers of your pulling hand under the ball and bring your elbows closer to your body. Slide your wrist towards the hoop to release the shot. Your index finger should follow in front of the basket after releasing the ball. Dr Welukar spoke about six types of basketball shooting. “A jump shot is most often used for medium and long range shots, including shooting beyond the arc. A hook shot is when the shot is made while your body is not directly facing the basket. A bank stroke is when any stroke is made where the ball hits the backboard before heading towards the net. A free throw is an attempted shot given to a player who has been fouled and is executed at the free throw line. A lay-up is a shot taken from a short distance by a player moving towards the basket.
