From Infoworld:
Java, the oldest new programming language around, is falling out of favor with developers. When it comes to developing the increasingly common rich Internet applications, Java is losing ground to Ruby on Rails, PHP, AJAX and other cool new languages.
Ruby developers can expect the following:
- Even more posts to ruby-talk with questions readily answered by searching Google or with a quick perusal of the Pickaxe;
- Greater Ruby integration in Eclipse so that you don’t have to learn troublesome details like Ruby’s syntax;
- Bitching and moaning that H1-B applicants are taking all the good Ruby jobs, when the fact of the matter is that most of the people that will be doing the complaining can’t write code.
Finally, Infoworld staff: Ruby is a language and Rails is a web application framework written in Ruby. Please learn the distinction, otherwise you’re reinforcing the widespread belief that you’re only eight subscribers away from being an in-flight magazine. Thanks!
