In the web tech scene, Chicago has always played a distant third after San Francisco and New York City. That may be correcting itself. Adrian Holovaty’s the guy behind the Python Django framework (among many other things) and a resident of Chicago and now it seems that David Heinemeier Hansson of the Rails framework is joining us as a resident. Did you catch that? The guys behind two of the most promising web centric frameworks are Chicago residents!

What’s great is that this appears to be happening at the grassroots level, not as the result of an initiative from the mayor’s office. And accolades need to go to Chicago’s own 37signals for the decision to give Rails to the the world and to continue to support it.

Personally, I’m hoping that David’s move portends a burgeoning of local Ruby interest and meetups. I [heart] Ruby.

When are we all getting together, basking in Ruby and Python and getting drunk?
